  • Flat Whisk – I adore this OXO Good Grips Flat Whisk. If I couldn’t have anything else in the kitchen, THIS is the gadget I’d keep. It’s the best whisk I’ve ever had and the flat part of the design is such a game-changer for making things in the pan! I could not recommend this more! This is the only brand I’ve ever had, and I’m a big fan of all the OXO products.
  • Parchment Paper Sheets – This is parchment paper that’s already cut for you! And it is the size of a half baking sheet pan, which is absolutely perfect!
  • Glass Mixing Bowls – This is a nesting set of glass bowls. I find I can’t have enough glass bowls in my kitchen!
  • Airtight Food Storage Containers – These are fantastic. They keep food air-tight and fresh so well!

Ingredients

  • Oreo cookies – Use classic or seasonal Halloween Oreos for extra festive flair.
  • Purple candy melts – Creates that “Purple People Eater” look.
  • Green candy melts – Great for monster or slime-themed cookies.
  • Orange candy melts – The ultimate Halloween color pop.
  • Halloween sprinkles – Bats, pumpkins, ghosts, or any spooky designs you love.
  • (Optional) Candy eyeballs – Add them on top for fun mummy Oreos or monster faces.

Substitutions, Modifications, and Additions

Substitutions

  • Type of chocolate – Instead of candy melts, you can use milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips thinned with a little coconut oil or vegetable shortening. Melted chocolate is SO good on an Oreo.
  • Cookies – Swap Oreos for Nutter Butters to make spooky ghosts. SO cute!

Modifications

  • Gluten-Free – Use gluten-free sandwich cookies and certified GF candy melts. The gluten-free Oreo cookies are delicious!
  • Dairy-Free – Try vegan chocolate chips and plant-based sprinkles on top of the cookie.

Additions

  • Candy eyeballs – Make your cookies look like goofy monsters.
  • Gel food coloring – If you only have white chocolate, tint it with a teaspoon of gel food coloring to create bright colors for your Halloween Oreo cookies.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Here’s our detailed instructions for how to make these Oreo Halloween Cookies, a favorite no bake Halloween treat at my house. The full recipe that’s in a printable format is at the end of this post.

Prep

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.

Melt

Three bowls of melted purple, green, and orange candy melts with spoons, ready for dipping Oreos.

Melt chocolate: In separate bowls, microwave the purple, green, and orange candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring each time until smooth.

Dip

Oreos dipped in purple, green, and orange candy coating set on a wire rack to dry.

Use a fork to dunk an entire Oreo into the melted coating. Let the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl by tapping it on the side of the bowl.

Decorate

Halloween Oreos on a cooling rack decorated with sprinkles and candy eyeballs.

Place on the prepared sheet and sprinkle with Halloween sprinkles or add candy eyeballs all over the entire cookie. You can use a piping bag to drizzle other colors of melts on the cookies as well. Cover all the way to the edge of the cookie so it looks so great and spooky!

Set

Let the cookies sit at room temperature until firm (about 30 minutes), or chill briefly in the fridge to speed things up.

Tips and Notes

  • Make sure your bowl is completely dry—any dry ingredients could make the chocolate seize.
  • Don’t overheat your melts—short 15-second intervals are your best bet.
  • If the coating seems too thick, stir in a teaspoon of coconut oil to thin it.
  • Avoid placing in direct sunlight—the coating will melt.

Serving Suggestions

  • At a Halloween party: Arrange on a black or orange platter with extra candy eyeballs scattered around.
  • For school events: Wrap individually in clear freezer bags tied with festive ribbon.
  • As a dessert platter: Pair with other baked Halloween desserts like brownies or candy-corn fudge.

Storage and Reheating Instructions

Storage

  • Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
  • Freezer: Place in a freezer bag for up to 2 months.

Reheating

These treats don’t need reheating—just bring frozen cookies back to room temperature before serving. They will melt if you try to heat them.
